As a dynamic entrepreneur, business coach and mother, Kim DeYoung is dedicated to supporting mom entrepreneurs. With that in mind she just released her most recent article in a series of articles in the resource section of her website. The article, “Beginner Work at Home Moms Need Your Leadership” is available for immediate download at http://Metromom.com/Resources.
Kim wrote this article because beginner work at home moms benefit greatly by observing and connecting with women that exhibit leadership both as moms and as entrepreneurs. Women get to know themselves and grow in relationship to others. That’s why women tend to lead—not by words alone—but through example and by modeling what they learn.
At some point in their lives women are all leaders, especially in the minds of their children. The traits they exhibit in a home-based business should align with the ones they want their children to value. Kim DeYoung, a mother of three, explain in the article, “When our kids have the opportunity to see for themselves what mommy believes in and is doing, what’s working and not, and how she deals with it and moves on and grows…that makes a tremendous impact.”

October 30, 2008 by Herb Stalk · Leave a Comment
Two local moms are supplementing their incomes while offering area moms snap shots of their children’s lives.
Kristy Troyer and Melissa McClendon, correspondents for The Daily Times and first-time mothers, created Snap Shot Moms in September.Snap Shot Moms is an online photography service of community events and sports in Mayes County.
“We both take pictures for The Daily Times and we have all these extra pics,” said McClendon, whose son Jasper is 15-months-old. “Why not make a little extra money?” Typically, the newspaper uses only one or two photographs from each event they cover. McClendon said she thought Snap Shot Moms would be a good way to add to her husband’s income.
Snap Shot Moms offers an online gallery of photos at snapshotmoms.com. People can view the galleries and pick which picture and what size print they’d like to order. Everything from browsing to paying for the photo can be done online. The prints will be delivered directly to the customer’s home.
The Web site has over 700 photos of all five county football teams, Band Day pictures, Mayes County Fair, Chouteau Day pictures, Pryor and Locust Grove Little League and Pryor, Adair, Locust Grove and Chouteau’s homecomings.

“To me, this is the ultimate expression of what I’ve been doing for all these years…that’s why I’m so excited about it.”
For nearly 20 years, Heather worked in the modeling and fashion industry. She says she led youth groups, even opened a modeling school.
Now she’s channeling all that experience into one place.

De-Stressing For Work At Home Mom’s
October 30, 2008 by Herb Stalk · Leave a Comment
Working from home is a challenge all on its own, but when you add children to the mix it becomes a juggling act. Unfortunately, when you juggle too many things at once it all starts to fall apart.

Rather than let stress devour you, and potentially harm your business, there are a few things you can do to ensure the best work and life balance.
- Take a moment to breathe. It’s not good for you, or your mind, if you keep yourself on overdrive. Step away from what you’re doing and go spend at least a half hour doing something else.
What you do isn’t nearly as important as why you’re doing it. So it could be the perfect moment to read a chapter in your favorite book, or watch a new movie. Either way, just make sure you give yourself a break.
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. It’s recommended for your health anyway, but it can also help you regain some energy and concentration you never realized had come up missing.
Take a walk around your neighborhood, maybe a little jog. Consider a few light arm weights to help keep your arms toned. I’ve heard that sitting on an exercise ball can be good for your midsection. Just do something that will get your heart rate up and create a little more blood circulation. When you sit down to go back to work, you will feel much better.
- Spend some quality time with your children. If they seem to be frustrating you, they’re probably frustrated too. Stop working for a bit and go do something with your kids. Sometimes you don’t realize that you’ve ignored them as long as you have, until it’s too late.
If you have children home full time, then you might need regular breaks from your work so your children won’t feel ignored. The happier they are, the easier it will be for you to get some work done later.
Whether or not you follow this advice, just remember to de-stress when possible. If you don’t feel stressed, you are bound to enjoy your work and life that much more.

More Moms Are Getting Side Jobs
October 30, 2008 by Herb Stalk · 1 Comment
Tough times call for Tupperware?
It’s one of the many direct sales industries now seeing more interest as stay-at-home moms and working women look for side jobs to help boost the family check book.
The DOWs ups and downs, failing banks, foreclosures in full swing.“I started getting afraid of what was happening. I said I have to do something to help our family. I have the extra time,” said Tupperware consultant Marie Keith.
Former dot commer Marie Keith turned to Tupperware.
She first sold the time tested products after 9-11 when she was laid off, so successful, she earned a minivan for her family.
Now that times are tough again the mother of three knew exactly where to turn.
“There are so many things I want my kids to do. Soccer and brownies and dance and swimming and that all costs lots of extra money and right now the economy is so bad that you know, money is tighter than it was before so I looked back into Tupperware and said, ‘yep, I’m ready,’” said Keith.
Women all over are turning to direct sales to bring in extra cash, from jewelry to cookware to candles.
They host parties and demonstrate their products and even recruit others to sell.
